Call for Submissions: Out of the Blue

“When you see the color blue, what do you feel? Would you describe it as something different than what you feel when you hear the word blue, or read the word blue on a page? Is the information communicated by a hue different than the information communicated by its name? Whatever you feel, is it possible that feeling is universal? Or does the color blue mean different things to different people?” – Baecio, Phillip. “Three Masters of Color Blue in Contemporary Art.”

Good sport invites you to explore how effect, origin, and meaning contribute to your interpretation of the colour blue for the group exhibition Out of the Blue.

Work in any media that can be displayed on the gallery walls (e.g., illustrations, paintings, short silent films (5 minute max), ink, paper cut-outs) can be submitted. We have limited space on podiums for 3D work.
Up to three pieces per artist can be submitted.
Please include a short artist statement (150 words max) for each piece and include an image list with title, media, year, and dimensions.
Please submit images of your work as JPGs.
Deadline for submissions is April 15, 2019. If selected, the completed work must be dropped off between April 26-28. The exhibition will run from May 17-June 8, 2019.

Great beasts of the Dark Wood

Jacqueline Demendeev
Great beasts of the Dark Wood

Exhibition runs March 22-April 7
Opening Reception Friday March 22, 7-9pm

Welcome to the Dark Wood – a menagerie for new flora and fauna. Full of beasts of experience which are manifested and characterized to prompt new stories.

Great Beasts of the Dark Wood offers a chance to laugh at the worst life has to offer, see ourselves in it, and maybe even fall in love with it. All emerging from the dark messy voids of our lives and minds.

Works of translucent gouache and ink on paper combine elements of natural history, botany, painting and illustration in a space that invites you to find the beast within.
